daddy's little girl

i love my daddy. i really am a "daddy's girl." don't get me wrong, i love both my parents, but i definitely have a special bond with my dad. i always feel comfortable talking to him about anything. and he knows how to calm me down. my mom and i don't always see eye to eye (my dad says it's because we are so alike...which scares me, to be honest) but after my mom and i have an argument, my dad is always the one to come calm me down.

today i had lunch with him, which was really nice. we don't get to spend a lot of daddy-daughter time especially since i've left for college. we went on a grocery shopping date at the beginning of the semester which was fun, but it was nice to just sit down and talk. and have it relaxed. i've had a rough couple of days and just talking to him (not even about why i had a rough day, but just in general) was really nice and soothing. i really needed that. he's proud of me and i can tell. just by the way he looks at me and talks to me about certain things. and even better, he tells me how proud he is. i appreciate that. i need that.

i really love my dad. they always say the guy you marry is usually like your dad, and i really hope that's the case with my future husband. my future husband has to meet some pretty high standards ;)

dad, you mean the world to me. i appreciate everything you do for me and everything you have done for me. i am very lucky to have you in my life. ♥ always, your (oldest) little girl

so sorry

i screwed up. big time. and right now, there is nothing i can do to fix it. and that's all i can say. there is nothing i can do but sit and wait. and say sorry. so sitting and waiting is what i will do.
and say sorry as much as possible.

i'm sorry :(
please forgive me.

toast

soooo my adorable little sister calls me up yesterday. she's so cute. and she loves talking to me. i know she misses me and of course i miss her, so it's nice when we have our short little phone converstations. here's how our conversation goes yesterday:

rebecca: hey rachel. i have a question for you.
me: ok, what is it?
rebecca: what do you put in a toaster?
me: (a little confused at why she's asking me this...) umm, toast. why?
rebecca: no silly, BREAD! hahaha i got you.
me: hahaha, you sure did
yeah so that one gets me every time. it was cute that she had to call me up and ask me that, though. lol well today i was browsing through some comics (i love calvin and hobbs) and found this and i thought it fit my sister's little joke perfectly. i plan on showing her this when i go home for dinner tonight. i'm sure she'll love it. lol

coach kay yow (1942 – 2009)

today is a sad day for the NC State family. Coach Kay Yow has passed away. she was the NC State woman's basketball coach. diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, she has been a public figure for fighting the battle ever since. she was an inspiration to many. her persistence will never be forgotten.

please wear pink on monday in honor of Coach Yow.
"We have lost a great person, coach, leader and friend. Coach Yow’s courage, passion for her work, strength and humility despite her personal challenges inspired all of us. She epitomized what a coach and role model should be. Her influence will be felt for years to come. The Wolfpack Nation and everyone who followed her successes on the court and her struggles off the court were blessed by Kay Yow’s life. She will be profoundly missed."

Griffey

so my roommate (lauren) got a puppy. the cutest little thing (well my little kobie is still cuter, of course!) he's a mix between a pit bull and a terrier. his name is griffey (grif for short) and he's all black with white tips on his paws. she brought him home last night around 11pm. i met him and played with him. he's so cute and curious. just like kobie when i first brought her home.

only problem is....kobie hasn't met him yet. she's still at veronica's (i miss her terribly, but i get to pick her up tomorrow!!) and i'm scared about how she's going to react. kobie is probably twice the size of this puppy and i'm afraid kobie isn't going to like him, and possibly even attack him. this should be interesting...i really hope they become friends. i know kobie gets lonely sometimes when i'm at work or in class so it would be really nice if they can be playmates. but what if they don't get along? i'm really afraid that if they don't get along, it's going to cause another rift in the apartment between lauren and me. geez, more stress that i really don't need. well i guess i shouldn't stress until i actually see what happens between the two of them. we shall see what happens tomorrow. wish me luck!!

my future profession

when i was little, i use to play teacher with my beanie babies. or i would set up my school in the play room and make my brother and his friends be my students. according to my brother, i was the meanest teacher ever. (i'm not gonna lie though, i really was lol). i was strict. i yelled. and i had a lot of rules. i didn't take any crap from him. and i graded all his papers really harshly. no wonder my brother was scared of me and dreaded when i would say, "hey ryan, let's play school!" lol

but in all seriousness, i have never considered doing anything else with my life. i have always wanted to be a teacher. i don't really know why i picked that profession because i don't come from a teaching family. and i wanted to be a teacher even before i started school. but of course, once i started school, i wanted to become a teacher even more.

i'm taking my very first elementary education class this semester. and so far, i absolutely love it! our very first assignment was to write a short essay about our memories from school and what made us want to become a teacher. so i thought i would share part of it with you...

Ms. Berfett was my second grade teacher; she was petite, had short blonde hair, wore bright eccentric clothes, and was an older lady. She was welcoming and understanding and I felt very comfortable around her. She made me break out of my shell that year. In October of that school year, I was outside doing homework with my dog tied up to the tree. She broke her leash and ran off so my mom and I cased after her. Unfortunately, it was too late. She had met her match with the UPS Truck and it devastated me. That dog had been with me my entire life. My mom sent me into school the next day with a note explaining why my homework wasn’t done and why I had a picture of a dog that I wouldn’t let out of my sight. I cried a lot that day, and many of the other students didn’t really understand what was wrong. Instead of having recess that day, I sat with Ms. Berfett and told her all about my dog. She understood that students had a life outside of school and that the way our outside life was going would effect how well we did inside of school. Her compassion and willingness to listen was really what triggered my thoughts of possibly becoming a teacher. She was the only one outside of my family that I could talk to about this tragic event that I felt like understood me. And for that, I am eternally grateful. I want to help children the same way she supported me and helped me in a difficult situation.

so that's basically when i had no doubt in my mind that i wanted to be a teacher. of course as school went on, there were even more teachers i encountered that made me say, "yeah i want to be like her or him." or "i really like the way they did this. i should keep that in mind for when i teach." or "remind me to never do that when i'm a teacher."

when the time came to apply for colleges, i only applied to three because they were the only 3 teaching schools i wanted to get into... Appalachian, UNC Charlotte, and of course, NC State. Appalachian and UNC Charlotte both have an established teaching program and i was very honored to have been accepted to both. i decided to take a chance on NC State though. when i entered as a freshman, it was only the second year state had it's elementary education program. NC State was the school i pulled for ever since i went to a basketball game in third grade. for whatever reason, i fell in love with the wolfpack (i was the only one in my household. everyone else was a blue devil. yuck! lol) so that's why i decided on state. but so far, i'm not regretting my choice at all.

but of course i worry about the future. i love my mom, i really do. but as many of you know, we don't have a very good relationship. it's been getting better, but there are still some tough spots. and one of our argumentative points is the idea that i'm going into teaching and that's the ONLY thing i've ever considered doing. she has told me on many occasions that i should make sure to have a back up plan because she doesn't believe teaching was my best choice. and there have been times where she's tried to talk me out of it... "you'll have to get a second job because you can't support yourself with the salary." or "you don't have the patience to be a teacher that will be successful." things of that nature.

funny thing is though that she's the only one i have ever gotten reservations from. everyone else that gets to know me and see me interact with children or even just gets to know my personality can say they see why i went into education. and that makes me feel confident in my decision. but it does suck that i feel like i don't have the support from my mother.

so i can't help but wonder, is mom right? will i not succeed? i don't always have a great deal of patience, and that's one of the most important qualities in teaching. and what if i really am a mean teacher? what if my students don't like me? and if i don't succeed, what the heck am i going to do with the rest of my life? i've never wanted to do anything else. i don't think i have the disciple to start from scratch.

there are a lot of what if's and they are always in the back of my mind. but right now, i am going to be a teacher. and i may not be the best teacher, but practice will make me a great teacher. this is what i've wanted to do my whole life. if i put my mind to it, i will be successful. it may be a bit of a struggle my first few years, but i know i will get the hang of it. and it will be the greatest experience of my life.

away again.

so i'm going away for MLK weekend. guess where...yup, that's right. Charlotte lol. with emma! and i'm excited. and i'm hoping i'll get to see a few friends that go to UNCC that i haven't seen in forever. it will be a great chance to clear my head and get away from all this drama. only bad thing is my little kobie is going to be away. she's staying at Veronica's. but the kids are so excited. and that makes me happy. it's amazing how my little girl can light up the faces of those adorable kids. they'll take good care of her :) they always do. so of course i'll miss her, but i'm excited for this weekend. it's gonna be a great weekend.

duh

so i'm retarted. i just needed to point that out.

i couldn't sleep last night (see post below). i didn't fall asleep until after 3am. and i couldn't figure out why. i thought i was having a panic attack. or i thought i was just thinking too much about certain things. well i figured it out. right before i went to bed, i got really thirst. and the only cold drink i had in my fridge was a dr. pepper. so i had a few swigs of that. then i brushed my teeth and got into bed. well dr. pepper, as most of you know, has caffeine in it.

mystery solved.
yeah, like i said, i'm retarted. lol

2am thoughts

it's 2am and i can't sleep. why? probably because there are way too many thoughts running through my head for this time of night. i can't stop thinking. i try to get one thought out of my head, and just as i do, another one pops in. and i've been laying in bed since 1230am. obviously, this is not good. my heart keeps racing and then slowing down.

is this a panic attack?
i have no clue.

but i feel exhausted. for whatever reason my mind won't let me get any rest. so i got on here to see if this will calm my nerves. why do i have nerves? why do i feel nervous? is it really that i feel nervous? or is it some other emotion i just can't find the word for? why do all these thoughts have to haunt me now? couldn't they have waited until tomorrow when i wake up. or if they could have come 1 or 2 hours earlier then when i laid down to sleep. so many questions, but not a lot of answers. if i get it all out, then hopefully i can lay down and fall asleep. just watching the computer screen is making my eye lids heavy. ok i guess i'll attempt to go to bed once more. and i hope this works. i need my rest. i was doing so well. i was on a really good schedule. i guess i jinxed it with my post earlier (or yesterday, if that's the way you look at it lol). ugh. i need sleep. well goodnight everyone.

left out

i've been pretty content with life. not much to complain about. i'm healthy. my family is healthy. mom and i aren't fighting. i'm spending a lot more time with my family. i got a new position at work (which will hopefully eventually lead to a raise). i'm back in school and classes seem pretty good so far. kobie is as great as ever. i have wonderful friends. i'm getting enough sleep and i'm actually sticking to a good sleeping schedule (that's one of my goals for this semester). i'm meeting a lot of new people. but there is one thing......

i feel lonely. and left out. and i just don't understand why. normally this wouldn't effect me so much or so strongly. everything is going so well, as you can see above. but for whatever reason, living with my roommates has gotten progressively worse. we got along great. up until that whole party fiasco but we cleared that up and after that things were back to normal. and i still get along with 1 of them. and the other 2 are just so busy, i barely see them. but the other night they all went to dinner....and didn't invite me. i know it's silly, but that seems to be the trend ever since we've all been back from break. they all played a board game the other night but they didn't even bother to ask me to come join.

and the sad part is, it's effecting me much more than i thought. it's gotten to the point where when i'm at the apartment all i want to do is be in my room. i don't even want to go out into the living room. the only time i come out of my room now is to go to the neighbors, when i'm making something in the kitchen or when i have friends over. i shouldn't feel that way. it's my apartment too. and i know i should confront them but i'm really bad with confrontation so i don't want to.

and then to make matters even worse, my neighbors, zach and stephen, are probably the closest friends i have here at the apartment complex, so i went over there to talk to them about it and just try to get their opinion on what i should do. they were really supportive and i went to dinner with them and their friends last night and then they invited me to on the border for dollar taco night tonight. but when i texted them to ask if we were still going, they had already gone! they didn't even ask me if i wanted to come after they had already invited me. i couldn't believe it.

it's amazing how only a few small acts can effect me this badly. i've been very content with my life...i've been moving forward head on. and then i hit this road block. i wish it didn't effect me so strongly because i hate this feeling. i'm going to charlotte this weekend with emma, so i'll have the weekend to clear my head. if this week doesn't get any better, then i'm going to say something...

i hate feeling this way :(

another GA quote

"I've heard that it’s possible to grow up, I've just never met anyone who’s actually done it. Without parents to defy, we break the rules we make for ourselves. We throw tantrums when things don’t go our way. We whisper secrets with our best friend, in the dark. We look for comfort where we can find it. And we hope against all logic, against all experience, like children, we never give up hope."
~ Meredith, Grey's Anatomy
i haven't been in the best of moods for the past two days, but i found another Grey's Anatomy quote that i love. i'm not in the mood to write too much more, but hope you enjoy the quote.
